Our History

More than a century ago, a young Lutheran pastor named William Alfred Passavant came to Western Pennsylvania to establish communities of faith, hope and care. Empowered by the spirit of God, Dr. Passavant's efforts resulted in the establishment of several churches, numerous care-giving organizations, and the hospital that bears his name to this day.

In that same spirit, Dr. Jay Passavant, W.A. Passavant's great-great grandson, committed with his wife Carol and 7 other couples in the winter of 1981 to prayerfully pursue a vision for a new type of church in the North Hills.

It would be a place where people were authentic, biblical teaching was relevant and understandable, and relationships were cultivated in a spirit of mutual care. In January of 1981, North Way Christian Community was prayerfully born. It has grown from a handful to a sizable congregation of people who share faith, values, and a common love of God. North Way is a place for all people to grow in their relationship with God and with others. You are welcome to be a part of our community.
