Water baptism is an important step in your spiritual journey. We believe that baptism is an outward expression
of the grace of God in the life of a believer. It is symbolic of salvation, not a part of it. Therefore, anyone
professing a personal faith in Jesus should be baptized.
Believer's baptism has deep, significant meaning for our lives as Christ-followers for several reasons. First,
being baptized after we have received Jesus Christ allows us to publicly express that we have indeed received
his love, and in turn are committed to giving him our entire lives. This giving and receiving is a kingdom
principle that can be found all throughout scripture. God's redemptive process is embodied through acts of
giving and receiving; God chooses to use us to accomplish His perfect will.
Secondly, believer's baptism is deeply significant because it gives us an opportunity to obey Him. Believer's
baptism is the first outward step of obedience for those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior
(Matthew 28:19, 20).
Thirdly, we mark ourselves as Christ's followers when we in fact follow Christ in His example
(Mark 1:9, Acts 18:8). Through the act of baptism, we become a part of God's illustration, or story, of His
love for humankind. As we are lowered into the water, those around us are reminded of Christ's burial and the
death of our old life. As we are raised out of the water, we are reminded of our new life through His
resurrection.
Lastly, as we are open about our faith through baptism, God promises us in return that he will open the way
to fullness of the Holy Spirit, healing, and deliverance (Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 10:2). As you consider being
baptized, meditate on these scriptures as your foundation as you move forward in his perfect will for your life.
