August 2, 2017 | Getting to know the city
This city is amazing! Today our Honduras team spent some time getting to know the culture here in Tegucigalpa. We all spent the night at host families throughout the city last night, and the team members reported back this morning that they enjoyed getting to know new friends and they appreciated the opportunity to stay in homes. The hospitality here is incredible. We feel loved and welcomed. Today we visited several places around the city to learn about the religious, political, and economic systems. We visited a beautiful cathedral. We also did an appreciative inquiry exercise in one of the local markets where we asked good questions of the locals who shared about the assets in their city. We looked for signs of hope and signs of need in Tegucigalpa. We learned about the history of the city. We studied the Bible together, and we utilized the city as our classroom. The residents of Honduras served as our teachers. Lisa guided our group through some reflection exercises, and we spent a considerable amount of time training for our camping experience with children from a local urban ministry. We are all excited to visit the kids where they live tomorrow. We’re all with our host families again tonight. Our team really started to connect with each other and with the residents of the city today. Please continue to pray for us as we make our way through the week.
