February 21, 2017 | Day of the Doubles
Today was our second day of running the clinic at the Family Hope Center. When we arrived at 8:30 this morning, there was already a line of people outside waiting to be seen, even though we didn’t open the doors until 9. For the next half hour, we set up and prepared for our patients for the day. We had 4 nurses assessing and triaging patients, all of whom were seen by 3 doctors after. In total, we were able to see and treat 122 people today, doubling the number we saw yesterday. In the afternoon, we returned to the Family Hope Center. Scott, our Buckner rep, was able to talk about water filters that Buckner provides to families in the program. Andy assisted the discussion by explaining why clean water is so important. Then our whole team was able to help teach these women how to put their water filter together to be used in their own homes. We learned that these families spend close to $4 a day on clean water, or $120 a month. This is a huge financial burden that is being removed from these families. It was incredible to witness the looks of joy and appreciation that these women had! Buckner’s mission is to empower and equip people to make a better life for themselves. Today this was truly evidenced by what transpired after giving the women their water filters. One of the first things they asked was if they could start selling purified water that they made. After a month in Buckner’s program these women are already starting to take initiative for themselves to make better lives for them and their families. God is doing amazing things here in San Pedro Sula, and we are just blessed to be a part of it.
