Haiti Student Trip Preparation!
From June 11th to 18th a group of 4 leaders and 12 students from the Sewickley, Wexford & East End campuses will embark on a short term mission trip to Cap Haitien, Haiti. We will spend a week working with Haitians from all walks of life within 3 unique orphanages:
1. EBAC (Elementary to High School)
2. IDADEE (Nursury & PreSchool)
3. Jean Claude & Monica’s Family (15 adopted Haitian children)
In preparation to this trip, our team has met multiple times to work on team building exercises including prayer, testimony, and most recently…cross cultural service experience.
Last night, April 28th, our entire team spent the evening serving at the House of Manna Friday night ministry “Feed The People”. Our group was briefed by Pastor Bryan McCabe, Dina (Free) Blackwell and the rest of the HOM team.
From there our group split up into sub-groups who:
-- Walk the surrounding blocks inviting neighbors to come and eat
-- Construction projects inside the HOM
-- Table & Room set up
-- Serving food & greeting others walking in
for an hour & a half we shared our lives with those in Homewood.
For an hour & a half those in Homewood shared their lives with us.
It was a beautiful thing…and definitely a glimpse of HOM’s vision for racial and gospel reconciliation.
Our students, some for the first time, saw what it was like to step into a very different culture from what they’re used to, and fellowship with others different from them, but very much created the same.
Our team’s cross-cultural encounter left them charged to make a difference in their city (Pittsburgh) & world (Haiti). Our time together also left us with the greater hope in Paul’s words “Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations” -- Romans 1:5
As our team continues to meet and experience life & service together, it is my prayer that they would know the power they have in Jesus Christ, the Gospel and the unity as believers which makes them an unstoppable force wherever they are in life.
Stay tuned for more as this trip approaches!
