June 13, 2018 | Mountain Day
Mountain day. The day that no one knew what was going to happen. Well that’s true for everyday, but today was special. It was our “rest day” today and Joe told us that we would be climbing a mountain to go to Jean Claude’s church at the top of the mountain. Dragging rebar.
This was actually pretty fun and an exceptional experience for everyone because no student team from North Way has ever done it before, shout out to Joe for planning it. The views were breathtaking, almost indescribable, and Marty, our newfound Haitian friend, was a joy to have with us halfway up the mountain.
It was not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Some of us got sunburned and all of us wished at one point or another that we had trained for this week. But when we got to the top of the hill and saw the view and when we realized the impact that helping Jean Claude had on building the church, everything became worth it.
And to all the parents out there that said they had to walk to and from school uphill both ways, but laughed because that’s not possible? Yeah, it’s totally possible, and we did it.
