Laura’s Story

Laura lives in the city of Gonaïves, Haiti, and works in a ghetto named Jubilee. Jubilee is the southern most part of Gonaïves, and is an area of intense generational poverty. Laura moved to Gonaïves in August of 2015, and has spent two years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade classes at Academie la Saline(Jubilee School). After two years of teaching, Laura is now moving next door to Klinik Jubilee -- an American run medical clinic located next to the city’s trash dump, which aims to provide top of the line medical treatment to those living in Jubilee, and meet their healthcare needs with excellence.  Laura will be working alongside the Clinic Director and Haitian staff to create and oversee the area’s first Social Work Program.  As a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, and a practiced child caseworker, Laura is excited to step into this role with her social work skillset, and fulfill the vision God has given her.

About Haiti

Despite being the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is beautiful in its resiliency. Haiti (a name that means “mountainous country”) is one of the most populous countries in the Caribbean and is located on the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. The official language is Haitian Creole (Kreyol) but the country’s business language is French. Political, geographic, and social difficulties have led to the problem of chronic poverty in Haiti.

Ways to Pray 1. For God to continue cultivating the relationships with those she serves in Jubilee. 2. For boldness and confidence in Christ’s authority. 3. Focus on God’s vision for the program and for her to work in His strength and with His guidance.
