October 7, 2017 | Day 2 – The Valley Church
The team was up bright and early this morning and headed down to the Valley Church as planned. They started their time with the congregation in worship, enjoying the sound of the children lifting their voices in praise. Afterwards they split everyone into three groups (adults, young adults, and children). The two younger groups were able to meet in a new building that the Valley Church has been working on for many years and has finally been able to start using -- Praise God! Rob led the adults in a teaching on marriage; Chris and Derrick did a Bible study with the young adults on perseverance and the importance of having a quiet time; while Bryan, Katie, Aubrey-Grace, and Bekah taught the younger children about the Good Samaritan. Each group had a translator with them to help with communication and cultural aspects of some of the activities. It was a great day with lots of quality time spent amongst friends and finished off with a delicious Haitian meal of rice, beans, and onion sauce. After lunch the team was able to spend a little bit of time with Pastor Jean Claude and all of his kids. Derrick in particular found common ground with some of the children and was able to speak to them with a little bit of Spanish that they were both able to understand. Because most of the children only speak Creole and none of our team is fluent, it is rare and exciting to be able to communicate directly with them! In the afternoon, the team returned to the Joshua House and spent some time exploring the surrounding landscape. It is extremely humid today and the team was worn out after their day spent in the heat. They ended the night with Haitian stew over rice followed by prayer and team time. Tomorrow they prepare to return to the Valley Church where Rob will be bringing the message. Please continue to pray for God to use our team in audacious and unexpected ways.
